Post-It.

November 22, 2008

I don’t care whatever label (i.e. post-rock) has been slapped onto (almost purely-instrumental) bands like Explosions In The Sky and The Calm Blue Sea - this kinda stuff has the substance to transcend and overwhelm the sticker.  The anticipation, the build up, the melodic undercurrents and rhythmic riffs – oh, terrific riffs they be – they all have this ability to really move you.

I’ve always loved Explosions in the Sky. To have recently come across The Calm Blue Sea – my my. It’s all very encouraging and hopeful, this particular emerging wave of beautiful, thoughtful, sonic pulses.

Swash.

Still Getting Used (To It).

November 17, 2008

The daily grind and fine rind. Let’s see. Should one ever get used to something? What happens one one gets used to it? Would that be a bad thing?

I don’t have an answer, but instinctively, I hope I never do.

So I’m still trying to align myself to the daily grind. It’s all in the mind; but the more I’m aware of this, the more reserved I become. Damn.

Anyways, the more I listen to Rilo Kiley the more I liketh them. It must be Jenny Lewis‘ voice. I could play so many of their stuff on loop, I think It’ll take me a week just to finish listening to one album of like, ten or eleven songs. Currently, I’m looping does he love you. I know, sounds like a cheesy title, but heck, its so damn gooooood.

I think I just about drank the strongest shot of coffee in my whole life. It was transformed from an unassuming modest capsule to the most potent liquid ever by a rather sleek coffee-machine.

Damn straight its strong. I know its strong when I just can’t, can’t fall asleep on a nice sunday afternoon.

Unprecedented.

Frick-in’ Awes-ome Shit-zZ.

November 6, 2008

Congratulations, Mr Barack Obama. You deserve it.

Your victory speech was hugely moving, and immensely inspiring. Even merely reading the transcript at work got me all choked-up. When I returned home and watched the video, it had about ten times the impact. Pow wow owtch.

Looking forward to your presidency, Mr B. I have a feeling it’ll be awesOme.

In local news – Thank you everyone for the birthday attention! Rrrrrealllyyy appreciate it. You guys are just damn sugary sweet and nice and rOcKzXzz!! :)

Anyways. As I grow older, I’ve been looking backwards in time with regard to music: Bread - 1960s soft pop-rock, anyone?

P.S. Accidentally deleted the previous post, and I can’t get it back no more. Oh woe, the consequence of growing old, like mould.
