Pixelmator goodness.

March 29, 2008

/EDIT (on special mission request by tsk!)

Actually it’s not that different lah. But I really like Pixelmator, can you tell? Even spending two minutes on it makes me very happy. Like when you drink Minute Maid – especially Pomegranate Orange flavour. See I remember! =)))

The first pixelmator edit! :)

I have a most unglamorous amount of work to do, but. Damnit, I just couldn’t resist fiddling around for a couple of minutes.

Sigh. Yans, you pixelmator procrastinator.  Tsk.

Thank you.

Go figure.

And that’s all for news today, so goodbye and goodnight.

If I Had A Helicopter.

March 27, 2008

Andrew Bird is a genius. He wrote an article for the New York Times which I love. What is with musicians / artists and their wonderful writing? If you like Andrew Bird and/or feel quite free, please read - Words Will Tell

Oh, if only I could write like that.

 (no, this is not Andrew.)

 /EDIT:

This is such a superb video, really. Marble House by The Knife

Watch it, do.

It’s brilliant.

There is no other news that is fascinating, so I’ll say bye for now.

So long, and farewell.

Awwww.

March 21, 2008

Taken from Sondre Lerche’s Official Site:

I wasn’t going to do any shows or get on any more of those long flights that mess with your body – funky food, back-busting seats, the air, my God, the air! – for a little while, at least.

But what is a boy to do when suddenly Singapore comes-a-calling for your services?

Surely, you report!

Naturally, we had a terrific time in Singapore. What was much more surprising was how well people knew the songs we had traveled so far from home to come play.

For the Downs and I the show was a joy from start to finish. In a beautiful room, in front of over 1000 of our closest friends in Singapore, we got to indulge in a mix of all kinds of songs and energies. It was real loose and fun, and I believe I may have shouted, and I quote: “Throw yo’ hands in the air!”, once or twice during the show.

If I did, I certainly apologize – if it’s not too late for that (which reminds me: while in Singapore, rumors circulated that the duo entertaining at our hotel did a fine rendition of the recent hit “Apologize” in the lounge area. So far it has yet to be determined if the performance featured Timbaland).

In the days before the show, other curious incidents occurred. Some of the many cool-kids of Singapore recognized me as I pranced around the city or enjoyed great performances at the festival by Bird & The Bee and The Roots. My response to being constantly asked if I was who I was, was to do what actual famous people seem to do whenever seeking anonymity: hide under a hat or behind a pair of sunglasses! Or, if you really want to stand out in a crowd: try both! This, I found, is bound to give you the extra attention you crave.

Thank you, Singapore for inviting us and treating us so well.

♥ ♥ ♥

Thank you Sondre, for accepting the invitation and giving us a musical treat ;)

Swelled, and then Melted. Completely.

You have been waiting all your life
You use your patience to stay fine
Time moves on as you prepare
To tell yourself be reasonable
Then come the times you can’t foresee
You cannot leave, you can’t release
To keep you far from those dreams
Ignoring the right times
Oh, waiting was my life

You’ve been preparing all your life
You’ve had some trouble getting it right
And you try to tell yourself it may work,
As it should
But something good can do much harm
The good may kill for your embrace
To keep you far from those dreams
Tou know you cannot dream
I’m stuck for now, it seems

For now it’s too late
For you may not wait
And things that I have yet to know
Vanish before they’re complete
I may turn around
To see if you’re still there
But as for now, it’s just not safe
Maybe you’ll wait for me
Maybe you’re gone

Sondre Lerche - Maybe You’re Gone

With the exception of two duets (that’s Modern Nature and Hell No, if you want to know), he performed all of my other favourites. It was all that I could ever ask for, really. Stuff like Sleep on Needles, Two Way Monologue, My Hands are Shaking, You Know So Well, John, let me go – absolutely ARGHZOMGWTFBBQABCDEFG HEART BURST BURST, I tell you. I was desperately hoping against hope that he’d play the above song as the show wore on, and my wish was amazingly granted right at the end. Because the crowd was so damn persistent, he did a couple of encores and ended most beautifully (and certainly) with Maybe You’re Gone. The solo, acoustic take as compared to the cd version, is about ten times more melt-worthy. No shit.

The acoustics were brilliant where Sponges and I sat. Everything was sharply and silently clear. We could completely appreciate the smoothness and fluidity of his perfectly executed soaring of voice, perfect enunciation, and perfect tonality. I love the timbre of his voice. And his live improvisations, is something that I can add to the heaps of things that I could continually adulate him on. Our somewhat central position meant we had a damn solid view as well.

It was, clearly, a crazy awesome brilliant gig.

Sponges and I just went completely crazy when he played Phantom Punch. Okay, and so did the rest of the crowd. Smashin’ it be. Everyone was on their feet and groovin’ away.  :)

And yes of course we got his autograph. Ahem. How could we not? I was totally tongue-tied, unfortunately. He said three things to me that I have to chronicle here right now before I die of joy.

“Hi!” says Sondre my love.

I mumble a choked hello, eyes downcast nervously at his autographing hand.

“How are you?” inquires he.

I blurt out an emphatic “Good!”, and can’t even remember if I smiled back.

“Takecare!” said he sincerely, with sincere blue eyes to match. By then I finally gathered the nerve to look up. It’s so damn blue can?!?!!

Okay, and then after that I just internally combusted – especially upon realization that I was just literally one feet away. Probably even lesser. Argh.

Sigh. Okay man I totally got to stop gushing. Disgustingly fan-girling innit. Haha.

Pictures another time. So much work and so little time, I tell ya.

Thank you for stopping by, Sondre.

You sure packed a phantastic punch ;)

The Day After Tomorrow.

March 12, 2008

I can’t even begin to describe how I’m feeling about it, really.

First, Muse. Then, Christina Aguilera. The day after tomorrow, Sondre Lerche. They’re all the artists that I’ve really really ever wanted to catch live in the flesh. Broken Social Scene was a pleasant surprise bonus too. I really don’t know who else I want to catch live anymore. Perhaps I should construct a new list. Would probably include The Magic Numbers, Zero 7, Radiohead (they’re touring the US of A now) and well, I’ll think about this more deeply some other time.

Meanwhile, I shall make a cup of coffee and admire the rainy day that is upon us today.

Psychedelic Cartoon Punk.

March 6, 2008
And that’s The Zutons for you. I mean, with lyrics like these -

So I get up and go down the stairs and try to make a sandwich
But the ham and cheese, margarine, they speak an evil language

How can I not like, I ask you.

Psychedelic Cartoon Punk, everybody.

Cat Power – Sea of Love.

March 3, 2008

When this played during Juno, I think I just cried there and then. I can’t remember the exact scene, but I know when this song came on, the damn dam leaked. It was just too quiet. Too simple. Too beautiful.

Come with me
My love
To the sea
The sea of love

I wanna tell you
How much
I love you

Do you remember
When we met
That’s the day
I knew you were mine

I wanna tell you
How much
I love you

Come with me
My love
To the sea
The sea of love

I wanna tell you
How much
I love you

And here am I, tasked to write a 3.5k paper in the span of less than two days. The despair is fraying the edges.

And yes, of course Sea of Love is on loop right now. How can it not be?

Swell.

March 2, 2008

I felt very stressed the other day, so I went for an impromptu haircut. :)

I’m very pleased with the cut.  Although perhaps my fringe could have been shorter. If I don that pair of shades too, I’d be swell for Paris, once more.

Okaythanksbye.
