The Yearly Conclusion.

December 31, 2007

So here we are at the brink of a leap year.

Before crossing this socially momentous hurdle, I shall attempt to briefly sum up 2007 succintly in a few choice words, like -

(in no order of preference)

1. Sainsbury’s.

2. Iorek, polar bears and sub-zero temperatures.

3. Mushrooms.

4. Perfect Parisian Food.

5. Sociology.

6. Supermassive Black Holes.

7. iTunes.

8. Coffee.

9. Travelling.

10. Facebook.

There you have it. That was 2007 in a nutshell. ;)

My music collection has been severely handicapped by the lack of drive space and the recent demise of my laptop. I am pleased to annouce that I have finally sent it for a diagnostic check up at the service centre. However I am not pleased to note that there is a huge possibility of paying a huge sum of money to fix the screen.

On the same musical note – I have manage to acquire six brand-new cds in this month of december. How is that possible? I don’t know. I must be getting loopy, because I’m certainly not getting any richer. Three were bought on a whimsical impulse and two were cds I’ve always wanted. The last one was bought because it was selling at a considerably decent price. What a frivolous experience. How empowering and exciting. Grin.

Oh yes. A longtime wish has come true. Sondre Lerche will be performing in Singapore on March 14 2008. :)
I’m so totally going, even if no one else is. Mightily, mightily happy about it. :)

Ah. And we also behold a new season of schooling. I’m not ready for a new semester to begin. The significant final semester. How scary. What lies beyond? Or rather, what will this final semester hold, besides the obvious like tremendous stress over academic matters? Decisions, consicous brainwashing and the like awaits. Oh, and laksa yong tau foo, teh, soy beancurd and bleary eyes too.

Well I guess there’s no point musing about it because we will never know.

I’m a little lazy to put up pictures of the cold lands I went. It was a most wondrous trip, really. :) I’ve uploaded some pictures on facebook and got really bored doing it. Talking about facebook, I guess I should reciprocate the 32764328918312 pokes I received and superpoke back. But I’m loathe to doing it. It’s tedious you know.

Anyways. Like the year before, I’ll end off with what I really want to say with the help of Death Cab For Cutie.

So this is the new year
And I don’t feel any different
The clanking of crystal
Explosions off in the distance
(In the distance)

So this is the new year
And I have no resolutions
For self-assigned penance
For problems with easy solutions

So everybody put your best suit or dress on
Let’s make believe that we are wealthy for just this once
Lighting firecrackers off on the front lawn
As thirty dialogues bleed into one

I wish the world was flat like the old days
Then I could travel just by folding a map
No more airplanes, or speedtrains, or freeways
There’d be no distance that can hold us back

There’d be no distance that could hold us back
There’d be no distance that could hold us back

So this is the new year
So this is the new year

Have a good one.

The Obligatory Consideration of The Semester in Retrospect.

December 5, 2007

So the exams have ended and I find myself obliged to swing by this place.

What an eventful couple of months it has been, really. Has the school term ended for real? This sudden silence after the crazy, crazy paper rush isn’t deafening. It’s absolutely golden. I don’t think I’ve ever anticipated the holidays this much.

It’s also been a period of loss and recovery.

Like, I lost my cellphone in Krabi, right. And then I left my new cellphone lying around, twice. I managed to retrieve it back both times, but really – I’ve become more forgetful and more of a klutz. Oh yes. I also left my wallet behind on two occasions. Today being the second time. And man, I really, really, really felt like crap. Thank goodness I managed to recover it.

And another loss – my laptop. It has decided to be rebellious. I am rather annoyed at its tantrum, but I guess it’s been a pretty good laptop all these years. I suppose it deserves some time to just be itself. I’ve been giving it space by not pushing any of its buttons, but this space/silence/cold treatment thing doesn’t seem to work. I guess I have no choice but to send it to the repair people for a fix when I get back. Sigh.

Can I just re-emphasize how relieved I am for the conclusion of this semester?

Seriously man.

Meanwhile, I’m headed for colder places.

Packing is making me very nervous and somewhat jittery.

Have a wonderful december, folks. :)
